A HUNDRED HANDS

The Handmade Collective

A Hundred Hands is a non-profit organisation dedicated to celebrating handmade crafts in daily life, while empowering artisans to earn fair and sustainable incomes.

As part of a collaboration through the Spatial Design unit at Srishti Institute of Art, Design & Technology, students from our program were given the opportunity to contribute to their annual event, The Handmade Collective.

One of the things I was tasked with was to create a series of large-scale banners, around 4 x 6 feet, that would reflect the essence of the artisans' dedication and the organisation’s mission.

The client was looking for banners that would creatively capture the skill and care that each artisan brings to their craft.

With this in mind, I explored ways to convey this purpose visually, creating banners that would showcase a range of artisan techniques and styles. Each piece was designed to tell a story that not only promoted the event but also invited attendees to recognize the value and artistry of each handmade item, adding depth to the event space.

The final deliverables were a set of impactful banners that captured the essence of various traditional and contemporary crafts, each banner highlighting the diversity and beauty of handmade artistry.

Years later, it was heartening to see these banners still being used for the event, embodying the values of sustainability and longevity that are central to the organisation’s mission.
